from a veteran on veteran’s day

please remember those that are in harm’s way fighting for those that can not fend for themselves. they are our heroes … at least they are my heroes.

please say a prayer for my brother, stacy, and his squad, as he leads them, for their continued safety while away from their familes, and for my sister-in-law, meghann, and my nephew, ethan, while their husband and father is away. i know from experience that knowing you are backing them helps them keep their faith. it means a lot knowing your country is behind you. let’s not forget those that are away … they are there so you can be safe.

knowing what others mean when they say something like this …

Filed under: Uncategorized — kenny @ 7:27 am

i have been doing a really poor job at keeping this blog going. i spend so much of my time doing other things like reading other people’s blogs, or messing around on facebook. i have been doing a lot more reading now than i ever did in my previous 40 years here on this planet. i have been reading blogs, books, and things i have written (i hear ya, donna).

i read what patrick mead wrote in his most recent posting, and my tears of understanding and likemindedness (not sure if that is a real word … it is now) when i read what he said about the ‘presence’ of his children, not their ‘presents.’ please read what he said, since i can’t do it justice on my own.

blessings

Filed under: Uncategorized — kenny @ 2:26 pm

this past weekend was such a great blessing to me. i got to spend it with my beautiful bride. it started friday night when we went out to the movies. the movie we went to see was only showing at one movie house. it was showing at 1:00, 4:00, 7:00, and 10:00. well, i didn’t get home until about 4:15, so gues which show we went to? we got there in plenty of time. we normally don’t get to the shows until about showtime, but we were glad we got there when we did. the concession stand did not have much direction behind it, and when we got our seat (which we had a great choice of seats to chose from) about 30 seconds later the place was packed. maybe not that fast, but it sure seemed like it.

well, let me take away the suspense. we went to see fireproof. man, let me tell you what! if you have not gone to see that, and you are married, you need to go! it might even be great to see if you are planning to get married, because it might stave off some stumps in the road. i cried, and laughed. yes, i got some popcorn salt in my eye, so i cried.

then saturday we went to the national shrimp festival, and we didn’t even eat shrimp. we had some crabcakes, and fries, and lemonade. we walked for miles looking at all the art booths, and seeing the sites. while we were eating, we saw a couple on the bench right in front of us, and they were signing to each other. i thought how cool! i might get to talk with them! later on after some space at a table you have to stand up to use became available, we did get to talk with them. the couple happened to be a deaf couple. they were from florida, and they were on their way to see the LSU/FL game with some friends that have a big screen tv. he was not happy for saban for leaving LSU, but i assured him that it was for the better. ;o) right donna? it was neat to work on my signing with a deaf couple that were more than happy to speak slowly with my since i took the time to speak with them. btw, she was from maine, and he was from florida. i found it weird that he was from florida, and he liked LSU. he laughed. :o )

then sunday came and we had a great class from “the helper” by catherine marshall. bruce did a great job on his sermon (listen by following the instructions on my previous post) and will hit it out of the park in his leadership of our worhip. we had a terrific lunch with our friends that are more like family, if you know what i mean. then we finished it off with LIFE group.

today i am doing a bunch of nothing, and enjoying it!! how was your weekend?

podcasting

Filed under: Uncategorized — kenny @ 6:59 am

does your church podcast? we do at port city. its fairly new, and not many people have been utilizing it, and i’m not sure if its because not many people know about it, or if there is just not any interest in podcasting anymore.

anyway, here is a link to our church’s podcast if you would like to give bruce a listen … i think we have the best preacher in alabama (thought i’d be specific so if jd, or danny read this they are not offended). you can even find us on iTunes.

thanks for stopping by, and if you know of any other good podcasts let me know by leaving a comment, and a link to, if you don’t mind.

i’m SO glad today it is friday!

Filed under: Uncategorized — kenny @ 12:51 pm

this has been a busy week. work has been stressful; going out of town for business one day, fixing/issueing BlackBerries, running video cable and fiber optic cable, working OT last night for a work related training thing, missing survivor’s first night!, sending my wife to atlanta with some ladies for the women of faith conference, drinking coffee like water, working on church related service projects, … then spending my birthday by myself. maybe i can watch some ESPN tonite?

God has blessed me so greatly! if i were dead i would not feel this tired. if i did not have a job, i would not be this tired. if i did not have a responsibility as a deacon, i would not be blessed to serve the way i do. if i did not have family at home, i would not be able to watch tv with them. God be praised! when am i going to share more of my blessings so i won’t be so tired?

i am happy, eventhough i am tired. i have gotten to read some good books lately to see what other people think about what God has told us through his book. i have gotten to hear patrick mead share some of his thoughts on the subject of church and how it should be conducted. i have gotten to listen to randy harris some more … please remember randy in your prayers. his step-mom went to be with our Savior. his father has stayed behind while the two women he has been married to preceded him to our final destination.

how has your week been?

btw, along with this being my birthday, my blog has reached a milestone, i see. this is my 500th post. where will it end?

stuff

Filed under: Uncategorized — kenny @ 4:26 am

don’t worry i’m not going to talk politics because i don’t want to take a chance and scare off any of my readers with my views. so i’ll write about other stuff.

sunday was a great day. it would’ve been better if i had gotten the hug that my daughter would always give me right after service when i was working in the sound booth. she would always be the first one there to greet me after service. what a blessing.

anyway, service was awesome. the singing was great, bruce was on fire, we had a big group for lunch at moe’s, the dolphins beat the pats … in new england, and life group was good, except for the lead balloon of a joke i tried to tell. will did such a great job leading us in worship this week. he has chronic back pain, but you can never see it when he is up there leading us in worship. i commented to him that we at port city are blessed to have him, and God has been gracious to us by him. will has not missed a service that he has not already scheduled to be away from. he has never been sick … and i hope i have not jinxed him.

today i will be traveling to one of our offices up the road to finish some upgrades to some of our systems. pray that they all go in smoothly.

pray that dorothy’s dr’s appointment goes well today, too, please.

thanks for stopping by. i hope i haven’t bored you too much. :o )

Christ in the Passover

Filed under: Uncategorized — kenny @ 7:29 am

i am also reading a book by the same name of this post. i got the book when the congregation i attend, port city church of Christ, had one of the Jews for Jesus come and talk to us about the subject of Christ in the Passover. the book is really good, because it shares the way the Jewish people think concerning the Passover. i have really enjoyed reading it.

here are some links to the web page about Christ in the Passover. there is a link to a 40 minute video about this subject. i hope you enjoy this as much as i have.

one of my birthday presents

Filed under: Uncategorized — kenny @ 11:29 am

yesterday i received one of my early birthday presents. a book by fred peatross; “tradtition, opinion, and truth: the emerging church of Christ“. have any of you heard of fred, and know anything about him? i picked the book because i thought it might be an interesting read. the title caught my attention. some of the words in the title made me think of some of the things that have been tossed around concerning the habits and traditions and opinions that members of the church of Christ have. some of those are man made, if you will, and inferred by others interpretation of the scriptures. one of the biggies is communion … can it only be taken on sunday? … can anyone take it when it is served? … what emblems are to be used?

when i get farther along in the book you may see some of my thoughts on this book. you are more than welcome to share your thoughts here, too.
